Had to put Zoe down tonight it was time, she was full of cancer, blind, deaf.....she was done

She was my first Jagdterrier. Upper talked me into this breed and I'm thankful for that.

She will probably be the best Pheasant dog I will have ever owned or hunted behind.

She would flush in one field or ditch over 85 Roosters a couple times every season......by herself.
She would never leave the ditch if the birds were in there......not one bird would get behind her she always kept close as a flusher and we whacked them all for 11 years

She was so good anf knew how to hunt birds. I never had to use a shock collar on her after the second day of hunting pheasants.

She would keep close and continually look back to make sure I was ready to shoot the birds she was ready to flush when we were close.

Her blood tracking was 21 and perfect for BG EXCEPT in a zone in MCC where she couldn't track two deer worth a damn.

She got to hunt Tejon in the spring and Mexico in the winter....... I miss the good old days

RIP ZOE!

Great dog, great memories. Nothing better than hunting over dogs, especially great ones. RIP girl.

So sorry for your loss. Sounds like a great dog. Tuff time especially during hunting season. RIP ZOE

Sorry Mark she was a cool dog. Always loved the posts where she saved the day on someone's deer. She was a lot better tracker than most of us are shooters that's for sure.

I am so sorry.

I grew up having dogs.
As soon as I got married years ago my wife imposed no dogs (after the wedding mind you)...but the wife insisted on having a cat...go figures. I said it was not fair and moved on, But I took note.

A few years ago I decided I had enough. I went online, found a breeder in the midwest and I got myself a dog without discussing it with the wife. The girl pup was almost 10 weeks and she arrived at the airport in a crate.
I took the puppy home and the wife tried to give me hell. In not such a nice way I told her to quit bitching because the dog was home to stay and that she better deal with it, the way I had to accept cleaning cat shit for years which by the way, is to me the most disgusting task I had to do..I just hate it.

A week later, the pup and the wife became best friends as I knew it would happen. The wife told me she never knew how strong of a bond she would develop with our dog.
Our dog goes everywhere we go and we would not want it any other way. She is part of our family and a great companion. We give her a lot of hugs and affection, we exercise her all the time and her favorite thing to do is swimming, loves to jump out of the boat and swim around it.

I have lost more than one dog over the years and the best way to grieve is to remember that we have given them the best life we could and they were happy. They loved us unconditionally and we love them back the same. Once that is over with, is time to get another pup.

Cheers.

Let me see if I can find a pic of the pup when she was little. ..20211215_163351.jpg

Zoe was 17 this year she had a good long run.

I'm glad I got a new pup this year she's almost a year old and doing great.

Thanks guys!
17 years is beyond what we normally have to treasure with dogs or cats, congrats for such a great long lived partner, I've had that privelidge twice and it will never leave my immediate day to day thoughts forever.

Damn Mark. Sorry to hear that. I'd be crying my eyes out if that was my pup. I'll take a look around the the bow shop next time I run by. Sounds like she was quite the hunting buddy.
