Hunting is hard (D16)

I think about the off season and how I wish I was out in the field and that keeps me going every time. L

Good advice.

Hunted dark to dark today. Could have filled 2 doe tags. Still not seeing any bucks.

A guy walked into the draw below my hill. Waved at me through the binos and walked a full circle around the hill over the next 2 hours. Thanks bro, public land hunting at its best.

Matt,

And on a Thursday no less......... :-[

Indeed Steve. Hunters were out in force today.

The does I'm seeing are singles, except one today had 2 fawns. Does that imply zero rut activity in my areas?

Keep at it. Ive seen tons of does so far. My buddy told me today he saw a few bucks chasing them today. Good luck

The bucks are rutting I've seen them chasing does since last Friday. There just stupid right now I had a monster this morning come in on a hot doe and not spook even when I shot and missed because of the glare from the sun rising. Bows the time to kill one.

I hunted dark to dark Thurs and Friday. Saw does and does with fawns. Saturday hit a new spot in the AM. FINALLY saw my first bucks in the field. A small bodied deer with a somewhat wide 2x or 3x, and a mature looking bruiser (too dark to see the rack). Both were 800+ yards away, across a canyon, and moving in the wrong direction, so I didn't try to make a move.

Seeing bucks (in the field, on public land, during D16) is definitely the high water mark of my deer hunting career. The best part is, I actually glassed them up myself (rather than relying on someone else to find them). But I'm already ready for the next milestone (shooting one!). Will get back out soon hopefully, but work is calling.

I've wondered the same thing. Seen single does several times, no buck with them.
