Got out to the valley at around 2:00 pm.....Wanted to scout for hunting Wister today, but saw a pretty good bunch of doves transporting along a ditch.....Saw where they were feeding. So I set-up to intercept with the spinner.....While I was doing this, a saw a small covey of desert quail come out of some wild land.....They saw me coming, but as usual, there were some stragglers.....Bagged 2.....When I picked one of them up, I noticed pheasant tracks.....Another 50 yards down was a good tule patch.....And wouldn't you know it, a big old rooster busted out ( I switched to steel 3 duck loads, in case you were wondering.....lol).....Went back to the spinner and proceeded to get 12 doves, with about 30 minutes of scouting time left.
Hunted Wister today and if I wasn't just a total numb nut, I should've had a limit.....Ended up with 3 teal (2 cinnies, & a GW).....The coup de grace was missing a bull sprig just outside the decoys.....Enough was enough.....Picked up at 10:30 am.....lol
Going home, Stefanie & Jacob gave me a call and he said he had some time for some doves.....So it was back to MCC near Henshaw at 2:20 pm (same spot as Thursday's double limits).....Not wide open, but managed 20 bite sized morsels.
Great 2 days of wing shooting here in SoCal.
ps.....Weird rocket on Friday night too.
