My son and I hunted our tails off this season
Opening day during that wicked wind we had a shot at "Tank" (named him after seeing him during A22).
Large bodied 4x4.
193yd misses low and never saw him all Season.
I rushed a shot two weeks later and was just sick knowing how much effort and time we've put in.
Last day of the season we try a new spot 2 hours from home.
Spent all morning and and late into the afternoon, decided to split up.
Cam and younger brother dropped low into an oak grove with his bow (A22 in his pocket).
I plan to hike above to another ridge which has fresh tracks leading uphill.
Plan was to meet back @ 3:30p as not to hike out the 2.5 miles in the dark.
At 2:50p I catch a doe zipping through two drainage over.
She never saw me so my thought a buck was on her.
I made a move and dip over where I thought she'd come out.
There he is, 40 yds in my front door.
Whistle once, stops long enough to put him down.
Small fork but blessed to take him
The boys surely hear the rapport and should meet up with me.
It's 3:10p and they should see me above them a minimum of a 1/4 mile away quarting the buck.
Its now 4p and lthe sun is tucking behind the mountains.
I hear Cam yell out, we're coming but its going to be a little while.
What the hell is that supposed to mean.
I stand up, glass to their direction and see them dragging a deer.
Did they ever pick a bad line to get to me.
Cam arrowed a quality doe.
We took some time cutting and packing our game bags.
This was the first hunt my youngest had been on and sure glad he was with Cam.
There's no doubt without Cade joining us that pack out would have been seriously difficult.
His pack alone was just over 60lbs.
I had back surgery a year ago and the boys were willing to haulmost of the meat out.
We started out hike out at 6:30p and made it to the truck by 8p
Thank you ONx. With no real trail and bush wacking in the dark...
When we got to the truck Cade says, dad I'll deer hunt with you again, but Ill never go down there ever!!
So blessed to have this opportunity with both my boys.
The real trophy is in that alone.
Ive always tought them, you never give up!
Congratulations to all those who had a successful season and to those who kept grinding it out
