Hello everyone,

My name is Ryan Harris, and I've been wanting to get into hunting for quite a while, but life has always seemed to get in the way. I now have four kids—three boys and a newborn daughter. My oldest son is 7, and he's been asking me to take him hunting, so I figured it's time to finally learn.

I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors fishing and camping, but I never had the opportunity to hunt. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here, reading through old threads, and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as I get started.

Right now, my plan is to focus on rabbit and squirrel hunting to learn the basics. I've already downloaded OnX and have been getting familiar with how to use it and read public land maps.

Thanks for having me! Looking forward to learning from you all.

Location: Whittier, CA

Larry did..and did a video on how to cook and eat a coyote...and well...look what happened!! And ya ryan...don't eat ground squirrels..all kinds of bad in there ..oh ..and welcome!!! Lots of good stuff for you and your kids here!

Welcome to SCH,

Ask away on the questions for SoCal...Being that you're in Whittier, most your hunting will be in San Diego, Riverside and San Berdoo counties....Lots of guys that can help you out....

Wellcome to SCH. lots of good guys here to learn from, just don't ask for honey holes.:). Look into Az. for rabbit hunting, it's open all year long, Drive up and down the Colorado river road south of Blythe, Ca. Az. offers hunting license by the day, you can get license online. Sorry no squirrels over there, but a good number of quail. Best of luck.

Thank you all! For sure wont be asking for locations. Ive been in the SoCal fishing world long enough to know better haha

Waterfowl hunts and AZ would be fun. Thank you!

Have a family cabin in Big Bear, so I've been looking into that area as well. See that there is duck hunting oppourtinity and some small game too but depends on stuff being closed for fires. Tons of information on here and I've been reading as much as possible.
