I am so proud Right now, my boy got a big bad ass turkey. Huge thanks to Mjb for giving me the dope! We set up next to some farm buildings on private land. Right at first light we hear the first gobble. The Tom came right in like he was on a rope. At 30 yards he hung up and I told little Billy Jr to let it rip. Crack from the 10/22 and the cci mini mag did its job!!!!! Big Bird down

Nice bird! That's it!! Im switching to the 10.22 also!!! Kapoow!!!

Congrats Bill & son......Real beauty!

Those .22's do a number on those big toms.....I'll have to try that some day.....Oh, and it's amazing how far the turkeys of San Diego have traveled..... ::)

ps.....For any newbie's out there.....22's are not legal for turkeys..... :-[

It was a double beared, thanks for the congrats everyone

Well this epic day came crashing down. Got a visit by Mr green jeans. Guess you can't shoot turkey with a 22. Bird gone, cited and Billy Jr is crying. Epic fail

Enjoy the moment..let it go..
.Mr. Green jeans will always be there..

We give little Billy Jr. an "E" for effort. And I love the sound of a 22 when it hits game next to a building. An awesome thwack echoing off of the dwellings wall!

And it is great that he got his first interlude with Mr. Green Jeans out the way at such a young age!

Congratulations to billy, and I really didn't want to say anything however everyone thinks just because my sons name is billy does not mean that he is bills son, billy is my son and I am proud of him for his first turkey, I really wish he shot it with me his dad but Billy's mom had other plans when she saw this tall skinny construction worker in the street.

Read the story and thought the .22 thing was just a teaser/joke. I see a shotgun laying in the back round of the picture. Whats up ? I hate to see a junior being stressed by a bad situation.

Its April 2nd now....... Did anyone go hunting off Ortega today?

You can hunt them with air rifles, but not .22s? Strange.

Not really.......22 is way more deadly and at a greater distance.......Pellet gun isn't much different than shooting a bow range wise......In fact, I'd say a good bows man has a much bigger advantage.

Wow man, sad end to a epic turkey! I've been out hunting SD county 7-8 times now (deer and turkey) havent run into one of these "green Jeans" as of yet. I must be hunting in the not so popular areas.. Lucky me :)

Was a April fools post, there are no turkeys off Ortega and I don't have a son. Add in the shooting next to a building and illigal take :) and you have the second time Billy Jr got it done off Ortega

April 1st two years ago, and no there are no pigs either http://southerncaliforniahunting.com/huntersforum/index.php?topic=5503.0
