Our hunting future?

I feel like most of us here, our hunting future is on the fringe. I don’t believe it will be outlawed, but I do do believe we as a nation will see a big change if Biden and Harris win the coming court battles.

This is just my opinion, but I believe firearms will be lost by the removal of ammunition. Have all the guns you like, but ammunition will no longer be available. I’m sure we’ll get to keep our shotguns, and the the only rifles we’ll be allowed is muzzleloaders. I may be wrong, and I hope I am, but I think it’s time to dust off my archery equipment.

Bob,

We have a lot of organizations here in California that fight for our gun and hunting rights...Our great president got 3 conservative supreme court justices that will defend our 2nd amendment...4 years of Biden/Harris will be trying, but we will survive.

I had a moment of panic when I posted that. You are right Steve, and I’m still keeping my faith that things will turn around in the courts.

Hunting has been under attack for a long time. Part of it is government and part of it due to our changing culture. Also as we have transitioned from a rural to an urban society. Hunting licenses issued in California each year currently are at about half of what they were 40 years ago (same for fishing licenses). The population has more than doubled but hunting/fishing licenses have grossly decreased. Many reasons for this. Today with urbanization most families have no experience with hunting and fishing. They don’t introduce it to or teach their children Because the fathers have never been taught hunting. Outdoor activities for many of our young modern family’s is soccer and things like that. I don’t see that changing. Most people were taught hunting by their fathers. Today many families are single parent with mother as head of household, these children will never learn hunting. If you are not introduced to it young odds are you will never take it up on your own when older.

The government also plays a part especially in California. Most California politicians don’t hunt, fish nor have they ever spent a night in nature in a sleeping bag. They know little or nothing of our natural resources, hunting , fishing etc. They really don’t care. They get very few votes from supporting hunting. The environmental wackos and tree huggers get their attention but that does not promote hunting/fishing. In some areas especially in California hunting is a dirty nasty word. They also grossly underfund the DF&W which both protects and promotes our outdoor activities. The number of wardens California has and the actual number in the field at any one time is incredibly small. A single small to moderate city in California has more police than California has wardens to patrol and protect the entire state. Politicians do not want to put money into the DF&W since they get little if any in the way of votes.

The last part of the equation is the anti gun anti 2nd amendment attitude here in California. Over time the politicians will through legislation and regulation make firearm ownership and ammunition possession difficult to impossible. I think in this state hunting will eventually be just a memory.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. My daughters want to hunt, and I’m going to take them. Luckily their mama wants in on it too!

the second part of that just makes me sad. This isn’t the state I grew up in anymore.

I personally worry more about land use issues, degradation of habitat, opposition to wildlife water projects, and efforts to restrict human access to public land through expanding wilderness and other protected parklands. I think the 2nd Amendment will hold up regardless of political party, but as the ammo situation in California showed, things will likely get more difficult over time. My two cents.

this look at how many of the usf roads in California have been closed to vehicles and it comes down to state issued animal/vegetation protection rules... cause ever other state i go to a national forest and look at maps to find access roads they are all open

Don't think hunting will go away anytime soon but gun & ammo laws will get worse. More worried about what the state will do then the feds.

My fear is that the feds will pick away at hunting like they have been doing here in Kalifornia. Little here, little there, etc... before you know it, it’ll be a wealthy mans game that the average Joe just won’t be able to do anymore. Like getting an elk or mountain goat tag here.

if AZ does elect one like newsom, the state will probably put all the road money into a high speed rail car that goes from phoenix to los angeles...that will never be build.

As long as the dirt roads are kept up..ill be on them starting this friday looking for the elusive desert mule buck....got a boy who is heavy on the trigger..and finishes often...ill be driving and packing out empty water bottles if we need to step away from the truck..im good at that...thats a fact....just happy they still take me...

Folks let me paint you a pretty little picture. If you looked at the electoral voting map you can see how many states are blue. The entire Western sea board is blue. Most of the N/E Atlantic sea board is blue. Slowly the center section of the US is turning blue. Socialism is worse than the COVID. They are impacting not only in DC but each state is turning as well. First the gun feature bans then will come the ammo bans. Not necessarily will they come and get your guns but the will make it so that getting ammo for them but to take them out of your homes will be against the law depending the guns features. Just look at this ignorant California law: "Penal Code 25100 PC also makes it a crime for a gun owner to: store a loaded gun in a home, or within an area of the owner's control." Reloading supplies is next. California already tracks how much gun powder you purchase by taking down your address, date of purchase and amount purchased.
