Possible outing to Cleveland National Forest (turkey)

Good morning ladies and gents.... I'm planning on making a trip out to the CNF area for hiking and hoping scouting opportunities. Looking to track some good miles.... Will I have any luck spotting a bird this time of year? If so, what is there to look for when out there? This will be my first time ever in the area. Where would be a good place to start hiking out of?

I posted a similar post in SCH outdoors. People aren't going to tell you anything.. I tried already. Best bet. And what ALMOST everyone will tell you. Get out there and scout.
No one is going to tell you where to go.
I'm looking for someone to scout with to go for turkey in the fall. Everyone says that turkeys are low in pop due to drought so I'm not going to be shooting any this winter. Let me know if you'd want to give it a go.
I'm a bow hunter by the way. Hopefully your the same!

Guys.....We at NWTF are encouraging folks not to shoot hen turkeys this fall.....But it's not against the law.....The odds of you getting one with a bow no less on public are minute.....The good part is you will see country that may hold birds in the spring, when you can actually call gobblers to you.

If you attend the NWTF Spring Turkey Tune-Up at Lake Sutherland you will get plenty of info on where to go and have the opportunity for the drawings to hunt the Lake Sutherland city property.

Amen. I posted this pic last month of hens I saw on public. I took this pic at 15 yards and they were cruising. It'd be easy to nail em with a slingshot, let alone a bow or shotgun, so please let em go so they can have more poults next spring. No sporting fun in killing them this fall.

Right on, Jason.....I feel with another good winter & spring of precipitation. We can get closer to where we were just 5 years ago.....Getting more & more reports of hens with full sized poults.....The acorn crop (mast) is much better in many areas too.....A food that is instrumental in turkey recovery.

We must police ourselves.....DFW has no interest in regulating a non native species.

Dang. Ill be in AZ on the 17th.... I am a new member to NWTF, and hoping to arrow a spring Turkey.
