So, I have this Old Primos Jelly Head .660 that I've used years past for turkey in my Benelli SBEII and with the non-lead law for all Commiefornia hunting I was thinking about options for ammo. I've been looking at possibly going with

Browning TSS Tungsten Turkey Shotshells - 12 Gauge - 3.5" - #7

Kind of pricy, but if you're going to hike for miles for a bird, why cheap out on ammo and come home empty handed?

Thoughts or suggestions?

Almost the same combo I use, except for I like #9's and a Benelli SBE 1.5....Kills 'em pretty dead...........

lot of my buddys in the south run TSS ya it sucks its so pricey but realistically how many shots are you shooting in a season? I think it worth it. Good luck this spring!

I really appreciate all the feedback. In my searches I came across this ammo. Seems like it gets really positive reviews as well. Anyone hunted with this brand? Veteran owned company out of Mississippi.
I like buying USA stuff when I can.Screen Shot 2025-02-07 at 2.35.38 PM.png

Nice! I'm sold. You say you like going with #9 shot. More pellets means more likely for a lethal head shot?

IMO, 3 1/2" are WAY over kill with TSS...I have basically switched full time to the Benelli M-2, 20 gauge...3" 1 3/4 ounce of #9's...I have heard the Ninja shells are very good.

Here's the patterns from the 20 gauge with 9's...Most were shot with a Carlson's .565 turkey choke......30, 40, 50, and 60 yds.

Realistically, you can probably buy any turkey choke and any tss load and you will have a fantastic combo. Take that choke and any of those #7, #8.5, I prefer #9 like @ilovesprig but you're getting to the point of diminishing returns.

Hey, really appreciate the advice. Think I will indeed ditch the 3 1/2" option.

What are your thoughts on .555 for a 20g choke? I ordered one from carlsons but I’m starting to think I should contact them and get the .565 instead.

Remington 870 express... Rem choke in full or modified ... depending on whether I forgot to change it or not ..good night nurse ..damn yard bird.

Evan,

I think you'll be fine with the .555...I just ordered one for my Franchi Affinity 3................
It’s for Dunc. I’ve got a maverick 88 bantam on the way and we plan to run federal tss through it. Ended up getting the Carlson tss turkey extended tube with the .555 bore.

Who knows I may end up using it myself!
