Well, It starts tomorrow down in my area. Good Luck to all, glad my buddy texted me and reminded me. I would of missed it and that would of sucked. Quail is the only bird my 8yr old loves to eat so far, he says pheasant is his 2nd choice. Glad I found a few spots during dove. Report coming soon.

Yes, good luck to all other as well. It was blowing 20-30 in my quail spot today and strong winds in the AM so hoping it stays calm at least for the morning hours for the Sat opener.

I hunted for birds at one of my D-14 spots this morning. Lots of hunters but no birds seen or heard. No shots heard either. Saw a Doe.

Hit a D16 spot this morning. Wasn’t able to hunt that long before the winds kicked up. Bumped a sizeable covey that quickly flew to the steep/thick unhuntable area. The covey busted quite a ways out for an opening day hunt and they were not very vocal. Felt like a late season hunt. Kind of odd. Managed only 1 bird and my worst opener in many years. Sounded like a slow opener for others. Likely back out tomorrow for a quick outing if the winds tapper off.

Other reports out there from D16?

Howdy hunters,

Late post... Opening day my spot had a travel trailer parked in it and they were hunting it, dang out of towners :p . Went home with no quail for the morning session. After the kiddos soccer game I had a party in Holtville. Perfect, I can hunt the highline canal spots. Man these quail are so fast and they are always on the look out BUT I managed 3 for Saturday.

Skipped Sunday and Monday. Tuesday came around and I needed to check my original spot that was taken on opener. The area was clear and the quail were still around. Managed another 3 for today. 6 in the freezer it is.

Nothing like hunting in vans and a polo from work :).... oh yeah the quail had a full crop.
Thanks for reading, maybe in November I'll post up some big game pics, archery isn't going that well :)IMG_0148.JPG
