R.I.P Charlie...

How many times does this have to happen?

The shooter, a stupid kid, apparently well-raised, pursuing an education, from a stable family with a father who is in law enforcement. Imagine that.
How does this kid go as far as to assassinate anyone?
At the age of 22, he had no significant life experience. Is hard to imagine he had a well-formed political view, yet he was full of hate.

At age 22 I was working, studying, and chasing girls with no care in the world about politics. When did politics infiltrate the lives of young men ?

IMO any political or religious Activist who goes around to talk to young adults about their ideology should not be welcome in schools.
Let the kids make their choice and seek those activists outside of the school if they want to. Young adults ages 20-25 based on scientific studies, are still developing the ability to execute critical thinking and are still mentally maturing. They might not be idiots but they are impressionable.

I believe that if this kid goes to the electric chair because of what he did, the shooting problem will not go away.
Punish, intimidate, kill, and destroy is just going to make matters worse.
If we are not going to allow people onto campuses for open discussions then we should also remove the the professors, teachers, administrators that are brainwashing students with their agenda

No kidding. 95% of professors lean left.

They allow dick swinging men in women's bathrooms but pretend Charlie was the extremist.

I don't know what rhetoric this kid immersed himself in, but it's not hard to imagine some toxic internet environment. Whatever the case, I hope the court system would do us all a favor and not drag out his execution for years and years like it always does. The Boston marathon bomber is still appealing his execution after 12 years -- I don't see how the death penalty deters a single person if you know you've still got many years of life ahead of you.

Exactly. If so many teachers weren’t activists pushing their lefty ideology perhaps a Charlie Kirk wouldn’t be necessary. At least attending Charlie’s events was voluntary. I still remember being in college during the 1980’s and having to listen to a rabid socialist professor teaching my mandatory history class.

On a happier note, wife and I tried to attend a Charlie Kirk vigil in Tualatin, OR tonight. Parking lots were full, people were walking to it from half a mile away. We finally gave up and didn’t make it into the park. It would’ve been half over by the time we got to the actual ceremony. Dude mattered to A LOT of people.

Still reflecting on Charlie’s passing…. It has shown me where I fall short, I need to be a better husband and better father a better friend…. God is good

I hope they carve him on mt Rushmore

The number of men who have not taken a college class in decades (if ever) speaking about the "grand liberal conspiracy" with a doctoral level of certainty is absolutely absurd. Y'all gotta turn off Fox news and go touch grass. You're just as bad as these kids that live on the internet 24/7.

Four presidents and a podcaster? C'mon, you're letting your emotions get the better of your reasoning.

Most of us, maybe even you, live in echo chambers to a large extent. It’s natural to gravitate towards the like-minded. And while I and others haven’t attended a college class in decades, we have kids who have, and we have friends whose kids have. What they report about most of their professors is pretty appalling. And those reports have a very similar theme of heavy handed liberal ideology being pushed. I have yet to hear a complaint of radical conservatism being pushed at their respective secular universities.

Objectively, survey after survey indicate around 90 percent of secular university professors identify themselves as liberal or progressive, and Democrat. It’s a fact whether reported by Fox or MSNBC. I don’t know if it’s an organized conspiracy or not, but unless all the profs are lying about their descriptions of themselves, the secular university teaching environment is heavily skewed left.

As far as Charlie’s impact in comparison to other figures killed for their beliefs and activism, it depends on what you believe about eternal matters. Charlie almost always directed his debate combatants towards what he believed to be the ultimate issue - where they stood on the question of the diety of Jesus Christ. If his message of salvation through Christ is the truth, and if some of those students were persuaded to come to that conclusion, the outcome would be lives saved from hell. In that sense Charlie’s impact and influence would have to be rated extremely high. Obviously, if you believe the gospel message is nonsense, you wouldn’t see it that way.

No need to make it personal, especially if you don't know your audience. We're all trying for a better future.

PS: I am currently pursuing a Masters and my Wife a PhD, we are both almost done - she also teaches and I get to hunt A LOT.

I'm not making it personal. The deafening irony of the public reaction to this particular death as compared to the hundreds of other murders (including other political assassinations) is wild to me.

Good luck to you and your wife! I've got a masters myself, grad school is serious business. You are the exception to the rule though, post-graduate degrees are a reasonably small proportion of the population. I think my comment about many of the people railing against college campus culture still holds validity.

Thanks!

It has been shown that even small environmental patterns can have significant effects. This is outlined pretty well in some of the behavioral books - Duhig / Clear. Another book I read (I forget the author) showed how small invisible changes can literally swing an election. Ballot order, search engine results, social media display, etc.... these are things you do not even notice.

Furthermore, I have seen it first hand in my work. Employees who have an employer sponsored retirement plan are 2x as likley to save for retirement. Auto enroll the employees into the 401k and you have 60% more participation. That is a massive difference with just a couple of gentle nudges.

While a lot of teachers are excellent and try not to let politics influence their job there is undoubted bleed over when its 90% is on one side of the isle. That bleed will have significant impact on how our youth's minds are being shaped.
