What areas of Henshaw are open to MCC duck hunting?

I'm a relatively new member of MCC and am still learning the ropes and my way around. What areas of Henshaw are open to MCC hunting, what is the protocol for gaining access so I can hike in [do I need a reservation and what are the access points]? Also, is it possible to gain access to the lake from VID zones 1 and 2? Many thanks.

Actually, I did. Got a new phone a month ago and lost almost everything when I transferred the data. The SIMM card became corrupted in the process. I just went into one of my laptops and think I found it. Begins with an 8 and ends with an 8. Will try that momentarily. Thanks.

For any other MCC members on here......No, you can't access the lake off of Fink Rd....Zones 1 & 2.

no one here wants to go to mex..everyone is scared. There have only been a few killings in our camp this year so what is there to worry about?


If you do a party this spring at the lake i will bring the sled :)

Hi guys, I hate to be the new guy who barges into conversation with questions.. I've resisted this with about 100 threads.. like, for example at one point I did literally want to ask if one really does need '100 dozen decoys' as is common advice around here.

What the heck is MCC?
 
I haven’t hunted Henshaw in 20 years but just wondering if it’s still the same protocol and a race to get your spot or is there designated sites you get drawn to hunt. I’m up to speed on the price increase and drawing for a spot to get on the hunt list. Just wondering about the freelance aspect.

Not a lot of racing, since most of the areas are reached by foot...Boat guys and walkers can set up the day before (Tuesday & Friday)...So, Boat g
uys can "Beat" most anyone to the back of the lake...Henshaw is totally free roam...1st guy to a particular spot, is his for the day (shooting is allowed till 3:00 pm)

Back in the early nineties myself and and friend used to hunt Henshaw a bit and set up one morning in a corner on the east side south of the inflow stream via boat and had a group come in later and drive over our decoys and tell us we were in there spot. We signaled and told them we were there. Not only did they tear up our spread with their boat they told us it was there spot and we needed to leave and proceeded to set up, we didn't and both parties had a very poor shoot and an antagonized interaction for the rest of the morning. When we came in we talked to Frank and he told us it was not up to him and it was up to us to settle things. One of the last times I went back. Soon after that I quit hunting refuges and places like that and went onto better days fowling in other places.

This kind of situation is very rare, but like anyplace that is free roam, it can happen...The rule of thumb is 150 yds from your neighbor...Hell, I don't want to be that close to anyone anyway.

I haven't been to Henshaw in a few years but one of the last times I hunted it I noticed that people were leaving their spread out in between hunts to claim spots. Without going into too many details, we knew we were the first ones on the lake for set up day and ran into two spreads that were left out. I tried to say something at the trucks on the morning of the hunt but the group got really confrontational and told us to take it up with Frank. Stopped hunting Henshaw after that. I do miss that place, but every time I drive past the volume of birds seems lacking.
