What is a better hunting area

I know this may sound like nonsense and a little old school but have you tried learning to use a map and compass? Don't get me wrong I run two GPS units for convenience sake but if you are worried about getting lost an old trusty map could really help out!

Don't worry if you get lost just do what Bear Grills would do.
#1 catch rattle snake, kill and turn into canteen, use it to store urine, drink urine even though you have water
#2 find quick sand and jump into it just for the heck of it
#3 get to an area where you have cell service, smash phone and use parts to start a signal fire.
If that Brit can do it so can you!

Good place to start for beginner's (high fence & pretty much guaranteed).....It will teach you to look for animals, shoot animals, and then clean animal.

It's actually in the badlands of Moreno Valley by the boarder of Redlands. I live in Yucaipa and I can see it from the roof of my house. It is a high fence & almost everything there moves in groups. The feral pigs all stay in the open & you can get up close and personal with them. The goats, sheep & rams all stay away from you. They are the only things that will give you any type of challenge. But like Sprig said" it will teach you to shoot & clean an animal ".

Beware of the long tail son...he tends to show up at opportune times...and may be hungry.

There are deer up there, saw a little track driving up Indian truck trail. It will be hard hunting.

You might have better luck in D19 or D14. I used to hunt Black Mountain off the 243. I have actually seen several deer in D19, never got one though.

If you are archery hunting then D11 above Glendora has a large AO zone. For archery, that's where I would go. If it's not burned.

Here's the deal with Coal Canyon:

Pros: Big bucks abound as this is a pass-through for Irvine Ranch from the state park.

Cons: 1. OCSD not publicly considers this their 'private' reserve. They scout by helicopter and will interfere with your hunt. They may even dream up phony charges. Look at the Register to see if they are trustworthy.

2. The area was set aside and the underpass built at a pass-through for long tails. They ABOUND in the area and are hungry. It is not unusual to kick up three or four in one visit.

3. The hike. To get in you are going to travel 3/4 of a mile in elevation. Think about that. Deer are going to be at the bottom.

4. Firearms can ONLY be taken in from on top of the hill. Walking down the freeway with a gun WILL PUT YOU IN JAIL. Someone will call it in.

5. The gate. As mentioned above, OCSD considers this THEIR 'private' area. The key you get 50% of the time won't work.

6. You need two cars, and a cart. You are not going to climb 3/4 of a mile in elevation with 100 lbs of venison.

There are more cons than pros. Find another area. I listed only the obvious ones. There are many more.
