when are you allowed to shoot quail?

Get yourself a copy of teh fish and wildlife regulations and read it cover to cover, make sure you know them as the game warden will not cut you slack if you are in violation and you will get a citation and fine.

For example....My fishing buddies friend's son decided to hunt San Felipe W.A. (Oak Grove unit) on the dove opener without being drawn/permit (citation)...Said he didn't read the rules for that unit...He then gives the game warden a bad time...Said game warden then checks his shells...Lead (citation)...Then he saw him shoot over the road (citation)...Grand total...$1,700.00

That buys a pretty nice Benelli...….READ THE REGULATIONS

ps...Asking questions here can save you too... ;)

Sprig has this right, know the reg's otherwise if you're gonna be stupid you better be tough and finacially and able to pay for your lack of knowledge or cheating. READ THE REG'S PERIOD AND KNOW THEM BY MEMORY... also if a law enfocement officer encounters you (as game wardens are) tell the truth as you know it and be honest, they have heard every lie that exists and you will not fool them and will more than likely end up with a worse charge than if you had admitted ignorance or tried to tell a lie.

LOL, got to love it, seriously we have newbie easy fellas, every one has said it, read, read and read, and make sure were your at, and if it's legal.
and it's ok to ask as many questions as possible, have you passed hunter safety class, have you learned to handle a weaponed from a professional,
have you learned all the safety rules that's #1 of many.

I'm glad he decided to ask, Unfortunately this may be the results of DFW dumping the follow up class. Think about how many people out there aren't asking these important questions.

I'll go you further , find a buddy , a mentor. If you're asking the question odds are you found the little guys. If you know where the birds are it would not be hard to recruit a hunting buddy for a day or two , you'll have better time you might even get lucky and be able to hunt over a nice dog.

Just because you seen them does not mean you'll be able to bag them.

good luck and have fun.
