Heading up to SE Wyoming this October for my annual Antelope hunt, but this year I’m going to take the wife and dogs and try and find some sharpies. Never hunted them before but there should be some good habitat around Douglas.
Anyone out there with information about the species and areas to hunt these birds would be welcome. I have been doing some research on this but would like some first hand knowledge. I’m willing to walk but I wouldn’t mind having some confidence in the area I’m working.
Thanks

I hunt sharpies in Montana every year...They like edges of green farm lands, wheat, alfalfa, barley, etc...They also like country gravel roads, fence rows, and hedgerows as well...Free ranging dogs can be a huge plus...I have labs...So, we hunt a lot of draws, ravines, and cooley's...I probably don't have to tell you about isolated or secluded water sources.

Be careful and learn your birds...Young hen pheasant look very much like sharpies...One has feathers on the legs (sharpie)...The other one does not (pheasant)...Size comparison...Huns, sharpie. rooster.

I'd go to the Wyoming website and look up upland birds...They may give you a starting point...Then e-scout...After that, it's miles of walking.

Good luck

ps...Look up Eric Forester on You Tube....This guy knows his upland...
