New to the area of Zone A South Unit 110 for antler mule deer hunting am I correct in reading for most part that yearly with valid California hunting license one can purchase a OTC tag. I am fully aware of the limitation due to either private land use and access to public but considering putting in the effort and time for future hunts Members who have knowledge from past and present experience in this unit I’d appreciate your feedback. I may have the opportunity to hunt on private and looking for some insight.
Thank you
Lou

Lou,

Welcome to SCH............

There's a guy on here that knows the private prop in the mighty A zone pretty well...Hope he chimes in...............;)

I know that guy! Lou..first off..welcome! A zone is the largest and longest running season in the state...tons of public land and tons of private land...the fact that you can start bowhunting in July and end with a rifle if you want in late September (general opener in August) is un heard of in most all states...( And yes..over the counter tags..2 if youd like)....that being said...boots on the ground and scouting Will get you familiar with what's out there...if you have access to private...that's a huge bonus... I personally don't like people much ..so private it is for me..don't get me wrong. I cut my teeth on public land and still hunt it in different states as it can be awesome...but if you get back in on the public...I'm sure you can scratch up a buck...keep us posted and post him when you kill him...I love A zone..

@Lou2024 if you are not gifted with private land like some people on this site read this book.. yes its old and centered around pigs but it gives you some insight into where to go on public land. Turns out pigs and deer like the same stuff :)
