Dove opener awaits

Yea Steve, Canals are dangerous you have to be careful for sure, Personally I don't see the need for dog when it comes to dove hunting. I never took mine out. I would keep along lead on the dog in a canal situation so you can drag them out if necessary (not pretty but can be done) Let me know if you decide to look into one I have connections..

So question... re: Doves... for myself, being more up North of all you guys. Since I don't reckon there'd be any cultivated lands in a huntable area up here... where do folks in LA County and North OC typically go for Dove Hunting? If you happen to know, great, if not...hey, maybe ask your friends. Thx.

Side question: I bothered to get an Upland Game Validation for my license this year so I would be in the clear to try for Quail when the time comes. Does that Upland stamp give me the go ahead on all those other birds to? Pheasant, Turkey, Quail, Chukar and Dove? I mean I figured for sure it's Dove and Quail/Chukar, just wasn't sure about the others.

I've heard that in IE that Raahauge's has some private lands, besides the shooting range, that you pay to get into, and that they stock the area with Pheasants? Is that information correct?

Don't forget the plaster city WMA drawing is sat at 9am. Getting one of the spots at pc for opening day is like getting drawn for a limited entry elk tag

Most go to the IV. Huge numbers of LA and OC hunters out there on Sept 1st. You're set for all the birds mentioned.

What do you mean Steve, there's plenty of fall turkeys on dove opener, sending questionable shots high and low and all over lol. Be careful out there.. just ask @WaterDawg.

@Aeon what's your res draw for PC? I drew #69 on the Gypsum Unit

San Jacinto wildlife area is cutting now for maximum dove on the opener. Much closer for you.

You definitely have your Mojo on.....lol

ps....Very cool dog.
Thanks sir! She's out of Jackson Creek Kennels near CO Springs. 9 months old and hellova prey drive! Chased a winged drake for 14 mins last month out at HOK before she caught and retrieved it. Stoked for this season to get back to NE/KS and into some good birds.

Btw, I've been listening to your Ridge2Ridge interviews. Good shit. Wish I would have seen this area in it's hay day! You are a plethora of knowledge and we're all forever grateful for your wisdom. Hope our paths cross sometime :)

Be careful with dogs out there I've heard too many stories over the years about dogs dying from heat. By the time most folks notice that there dog is heat stressed it is quite often too late. Keep the dog in the shade as much as possible swim him often if you can and have a cooler full of ice and trash bags in case you have to get him in the truck and with the ac on and pack ice on him . Steve, That would be a Pudlepointer awesome breed, my wife apprenticed under a fellow named Bodo Winterhelt who brought them to the sates in the 50's
roger that. not even sure I'll hunt her unless real early. I've heard the same.. even with chilled wet wraps. Thanks for the insight.

Yep, I grew up w/ GSPs and Labs but did a few years of research before pulling trigger on this PP. Cool history w/ Bobo, Bob Farris and other pioneers smuggling prego dams in country to strengthen the line. Never saw them much growing up around NE/KS but think they're starting to get around a lot more. Fred, you actually snake trained her a few weeks ago! haha. Thanks for all of your help gents. It all makes complete sense and much appreciated. This type of desert hunting is fairly new to me.

Are their assigned windmills or is that free roam?
