Well, I learned something new. This small website is very informative and touches on different aspects of hunting for beginners. One the most interesting pieces for me is when she (yup I'm pretty sure the writer is a young female) writes about camo.
It is a fact that based on how Deer sees, the hunter's goal should not be to match the background with details but rather to breakdown the pattern of the human figure. This is accomplished with some of the modern designs seen by some like obnoxious or might not "match" the actual terrain by detail. ASAT for example.

I am very happy looking like a clown in the woods if I can pretend to be a log or a rock. Whether I am willing to pay $160 for a pair of pants to roll around in the woods, thats a different story. Ha, but I have a DIY project to solve that problem and I'll post about that soon.

If you have not seen this site before, enjoy the reading.

Camo is way, way over rated for big game hunting...Turkeys & waterfowl tough to hunt without it.

ps...Just kinda fun to wear hunting...Here in Montana, everyone wears it everywhere...lol

I was taught, always wear camo that will break up your form. When I wear camo, I will either wear 3 D camo or different patterns for top and bottom, maybe realtree and treebark. When Turkey hunting, cover for hands and face is a must, unless of course all you ever run into are Jakes, then it just doesn't matter. Deer are color blind so it's more important to break up your form than to match surroundings. I love it when I see guys who look like they just came from a Cabelas catalog shoot.

No Deer are not color blind per say, I quoted the author below.

"Human eyes have three color-sensor cells: those that pick up bluish light, those that pick up green-yellow light, and those that pick up reddish light. Working together, these three cells are enough to let humans see purple, orange, aqua, and everything in between. Because we have three types of color cells, humans (and other primates) have trichromatic (tri=three, chromatic=color) vision.

Deer and Other Ungulates
By contrast, deer and many other game animals have dichromamtic (di=two) vision, meaning they only have two types of color cells compared to our three. Deer, antelope, elk, sheep, goats and pigs only have the bluish light cells and the green-yellow light cells. They can only see in these colors. Purple, red, pink, and orange don’t make an appearance."

So they see color but in low tones and only 3. Yes breaking down the human figure is more important that matching the terrain.

And this video is got me really intrigued. I know is a marketing piece but it makes a lot of sense to me.

Ya I read that same thing. I didn't mean to imply they couldn't see any colors but there are limitations to what they see and how they see it. Most deer hunters wear blaze orange for safety reason and deer don't see it as orange. My point being if you are deer hunting you don't have to go over board on camo. Hell Hatch hunts out of his pink pickup truck.

Man I kinda disagree a little.... If you are bowhunting and are real close I think camo can make or break you. I've been close many times and have deer burning a hole through me in a standoff and I won. I attribute that to camo. I use a facemask and larger patterns that break up... Predator, ASAT, Kuiu Vias... I won't hunt without it. Ed F

For bow hunting I'm with you. Feel free to disagree a lot. The article eventually says..it is beneficial.
