Elk calibers, rifle and stock, and scope

Out of curiosity, how is factory 7prc ammo inherently more accurate than any other factory offering? Accuracy comes down to tolerances and load consistency, manufacturers use the same machines to load their 7prc as they do all their other stuff...

I wasn't so much touching on the ammo itself (I know that was mentioned, I am unsure if that is true, maybe someone else knows?) but more so the cartridge design. Lack of belt, higher BC bullets, ect... that leads to a more likley outcome the bullet hits where you want it.

That said, I certainly wouldn't sell a 7mag to buy a 7prc as both are probably more accurate then me in the field anyways. Likely does not matter at 400 yards and in either.

I want a break or suppressor.
No need for a brake, go suppressed!!! You’ll never want to shoot without it. I run suppressed on all my rifles. A couple of very popular small and lightweight cans that work well with hunting setups are the Banish Backcountry and the Dead Air Nomad. If you think you might end up running suppressed, just make sure to get a rifle with a threaded barrel. And maybe consider a shorter barrel version in that 20-22” range. You must live in a free state.

Buddy, with that type of track record, I feel like you owe it to the girl to take an elk with her.

A good brake will cut recoil in 1/2, think .243 level. Maybe have the smith work on the trigger a little and upgrade the scope while you're there. It'll do great, especially with your familiarity and history with it.
I have a new scope on order vortex tactical
I would like to add a brake, trigger is light and crisp. I was practicing dry firing , replacing the old Bushnell scope.

I’m working up a load for a buddy right now for his 7prc. I’m a 7mm mag guy. I have at this point seen no advantage with the 7 PRC over the 7 mag with either factory or hand loads. I’m still using H1000 and Retumbo with the same bullets that I run in the 7 mm mag. We’ll see how it goes.

Both are great cartridges. The 7mm Rem Mag has the clear edge in factory ammo since it’s always among the top 10 sellers in the U.S., and 2024 was no different. If you reload and like the benefits of a short action, the 7mm PRC is tough to beat. Ballistically, though, they’re basically neck and neck.
