Chukar & Quail Opener 2024

Steve I've always thought I wanted to chase em'. Between kids sports, deer tags and the convenient IV I still haven't got it done. One day though...Probably up the 395 somewhere.

Is that you Rambo…Love it...Was there a specific year those things were introduced to the high desert or how did they get there?

Mike,

I recall it was in the late 50's and early 60's...About the same time that DFG were building all the guzzlers in the Rand, Black, and El Paso's Mts...........

I shot my 1st chukar in about 1964 near Jawbone Cyn.............;)

Plan a trip up to Oregon next year and we can knock some out for Mavericks first opener and Chukar season around the John Day area. Maybe we can get @HortoTheSlayer to come slay some birds as well...

Were going to try our shot at mountain quail in December....

Im down! I use to drive a little further then that just to get to Wister so not a bad drive. Took a quick look and I can get a 3 day non-res game birds license and would need a non-res game bird validation for another $44.

Looks like Maverick is coming along nicely!

Damn looks fun. It’s on the short list for this year. Needing some time off life is just stupid busy right now and not in a cool way.

I need to get into Chukar hunting. I've been a couple of times (never shot at anything), but living in Apple Valley I feel like I'm doing a disservice to the sport being so close to some good spots and not getting out there more often.

I'd say...There's a pretty good spot no more than 30 minutes from you....Right here........... ;)

I plan to. This is the first year in about 5 years that I decided not to get an A31 tag, mostly because I wanted to stop wasting my time and missing most of the quail season.

As soon as my son's J11 season are done we will make the shift to birds, with Chukar on the must-do list this year.

I'm going solo this year after quail. My partner is having surgery. I'm zeroed in on a good size covey. Good luck, everyone, and be safe out there! I want to see harvest pics!
