Not for this season but I like the idea of being able to use a red dot. I could have my 870 receiver drilled and tapped but I don’t know if the rail would allow me to still use the long barrel for wing shooting.
Just something I’ve been considering.
I’m eyeing this sucker now. Seems to hit all the marks.

There’s an article from Ron Spomer in the American Hunter I received last night where he’s using a mossberg 500 bantam youth in 20g as his turkey gun. I might consider something along those lines. I like the idea of a red dot sight.
Not as cheap as the h&r but likely superior in just about...
I think your recommendations are sound. I do have a few thoughts on 870s however. I used to recommend the 870 express as a starter gun back when you could pick them up at big5 for $350 on sale, it’s how I got mine way back when. It’s a solid gun with lots of aftermarket parts if you want to doll...
I saw this deal post d on another forum.

Now I have a gamo in .177 already, but that was the main reason I was curious.
Since CA legalized .177 for turkey it’s less of a concern than it used to be...
Given the choice between the two calibers, what makes a more effective air rifle for hunting? Thinking rabbit and pests. Maybe even turkey in certain situations.
Are there major differences in volume if shot where that may be a consideration? My .177 sounds a bit like a quieter nail gun which...
I remember that. I got a video of it and you can hardly hear the speaker on it for the rain.
Good opportunity to test your rain gear before the season. ;)
Steve, I’ve always used 12 for turkey because we were still using lead when I started and it was recommended but I’ve been wondering lately whether I’m overgunned with tss being so effective.
410 tss-focused guns seem popular in the gun mags these days but maybe that’s a marketing fad.
With tss being such a game changer for turkey I’m wondering if I really need to be lugging my old 12gauge 870 express hither and yon or if I’d be better served buying a lightweight purpose made turkey gun in 410.
The stevens 301 seems like a good solution. Light, short, already had a rail for...
How have you guys exposed your dogs to gunfire?
I’ve seen guys of YouTube do it with pigeons ( get them fired up on a bird and then shoot in the distance, reducing the distance over time).
Any other techniques/recommendations?
As far as I’m aware, featureless is still perfectly legal in CA. Whether a given part counts as featureless is more difficult to determine unless a manufacturer has survived a lawsuit or gotten some kind of letter of certification from DOJ, which is unlikely to happen.
If I recall, it took...
Dad and I saw a couple dogs near mataguay last turkey season. A male following a female and a puppy. I seem to recall the adults having collars but they didn’t bother us so who knows.
