    National Forest closures

It's not the state that closed the forests it's the Forest Service. They did the same thing in Arizona before the monsoons to prevent more wild fires. They are trying the same tactic in CA . Hopefully this short closure works because a wild fire would really be disasterous and definitely...

    AZ Non-Resident Cap Loophole

What was not mentioned is that you will still have to pay non-resident fees for all stamps, permits and tags. Not to mention State income tax for 2 states in the year you do it. It's not like CA, tags are not all that easy to get especially for elk and pronghorn.

    Strange bed fellows

While scouting for deer last month I came across a Bull Elk and a Mule Deer Buck hanging together. I watched them until the crossed the road and disappeared. At times the elk would stop and wait for the deer. I have never mule deer hand with another species before. You will see them coming...

    Savage HMR .17.....Deadly!

The 17 HMR does a nice job on them. I like to call it surgical removal of the little critters. My CZ loves to mess up their little minds (literally).

Scouting too close to deer opener?

It won't bother the deer at all. I constantly hunt coyotes in my deer areas. They do not have a concept of what a shot is. Just thunder to them. At Southbay Gun Club yesterday there was a doe between the General purpose range and the trap range and the shots didn't phase her. I was worried...

    odocoileus hemionus fuliginatus

John, per our discussion on Saturday google this odocoileus hemionus fuliginatus (Southern Mule Deer)and let me know what you find. As far as Pacific hybrid it was a name given by the California Bowmen Hunters Big Game Club. Cannot find a taxonomy of that species anywhere. My book "Mule and...
