Scouting for duck in Owens Valley

Well, we went back but we only saw a few ducks all day. I shot an American Coot. My second bird ever. Gotta make some gumbo out of him. I guess as it continues to cool down it'll be better hunting up there

    Quail near Beaumont, CA

Well, it's been a rough first week for quail. My buddies and I have been out for 15 hours of hiking and hunting and bagged seven birds total over that time. Maybe we're missing something or maybe the hatch wasn't as good as last year but this area in particular used to yield a decent number of...

Goin out to Beaumont for quail tomorrow! What one piece of advice changed your quail hunt forever? This will be my first quail hunt so I'm stoked to see what we can do. I still haven't shot a bird yet but this is my first season and dove were tricky for me.

Scouting for duck in Owens Valley

We found a decent looking place right off highway 395. Does anyone else hunt this area? It'd be great to meetup with someone We were further south than I initially thought we'd be... Closer to Olancha than Big Pine. And closer to the dry lake bed than the Owens River.

    Tips for training a Lab

Thanks for all these tips guys. The dog is coming along pretty well in his training. i do need to spend more time with him though. He's always eager to get in the water and will fetch real well with some items. I really need to keep treats with me all the time. I took the dog camping and he...

Where does everyone live and what do they hunt?

Sounds like I'm one of the "Northerners" here in the Redlands/San Bernardino area. I'm just getting into hunting and so far have only been out for dove. Anxiously awaiting quail and duck season though!

    Doves near Barstow

Thanks for the words of encouragement and tips everyone! We're going back out today for a repeater trip. I will definitely check out Old 66! We all spent one evening at the range this week and I actually shot about 75% so I'm hoping that will translate into some birds. Wish me luck! OH - what's...

Check out Paul Ryan!!! As if we need a reason to vote for the ticket!

I didn't mean to preach nor to incite anything. I also didn't say I wasn't going to vote.

Check out Paul Ryan!!! As if we need a reason to vote for the ticket!

I hate to go against the grain but I am NOT voting for Romney/Ryan [nor am I voting for Obama/Biden]. Anyone with a firm grasp of environmental issues knows hunting is an integral part of an ecosystem. It really has nothing to do with what political party they're affiliated with. In my opinion...

Resources for finding areas to scout

I'm trying to find a way to do some research online for areas I can scout for hunting. I assume it would make sense to start with a map of public lands or something similar to that. Is there a resource that marks out what areas are publicly available to hunting? How can I easily determine what's...
