After looking for a US hunt experience for a couple of years, I realized NZ was overall a better choice. The prices for hunts in the US if you even get a tag are out of control IMO. So why not NZ?
The trip was everything I was hoping for and more.
I could have taken more game but I ran out of time. Between seeing the country, tasting the food and loking for Thar, 10 days was barely enough. The 11+ hr trip there and back plus time zone difference takes time away from hunting and touring.
There is so much I'd like to share but I don't feel like writing a couple of pages.
I will summarize with this about the south Island:
The NZ $ was 0.62 c of a US $. But NZ is not cheap.
The service in restaurants is not great.
The food can be good but is mostly OK.
The wine is great and a good value.
The camping is great with bathrooms and communal kitchen at times.
There is wifi in a lot of rural areas.
The lakes are stunning.
The land and views are amazing. But the terrain can be unforgiving. I must have fallen 10 times.
The people are very nice.
Best way to get around is by far a van camper.
It feels safe.
Hunter friendly
Private land owners are ok to see you transiting to a hunting spot as long as you stay on the boundary and say hello.
There are sheep everywhere. And such There are a lot of fences.
Lots of land to hunt but you still need to find the game.
Air NZ is great.
Oh yeah the chics can be very hot but they are not everywhere however..they are very liberal .
Stores open at 9 and close at 5pm. Restaurants amd bars close later.
The hunting and fishing store is cool but Bass pro shop is way ɓetter and bigger.
