Second time that I've had a doe tag. Really hoping to connect this time around.

Nice rack & I cannot wait!! My new binos come in today and I'm going to do some final scouting this weekend before opener kicks off! Here's to another year chasing the mythical D16 giants. This only my 2nd year out so looking forward to learning some more and just getting out and exploring.

Thanks I shot his grandpa....or uncle about 5 years ago. Same area, damn near exact rack and same small body.

Advice
Hunt the crappiest piece of blm looking land you can find......they are not WT.
Find the does.....find the does......really! find 12+ does in one area you'll have bucks......water of course & glass, glass & glass some more.....and never give up!

Forget the cart, debone and pack out.....it's not really flat out there

X2.. get a decent pack and you'll be thankful. And halfway back to your truck with the deer and camping gear on your back you'll be thinking about needing to get back into shape..

Drag it, clean it on my hangin' tree, and take it to Specialty Meats down the street.......

Are you hunting solo?

Carts are ok if the area you hunt is flat enough to use one but that's not typical for D16. Those roll up drag sleds suck although I hear there good on snow. If there's a couple of you and your close enough to your vehicle then just grab an antler and start dragging. If you're solo though keep a pack frame in your truck and learn how to bone out an animal, google the "gutless method" and when you get your animal on the ground just go for it. I carry an older Kifaru internal frame pack as my day pack and I can carry out a whole boned out deer in it and I also keep a Kifaru frame in my truck in case I have more loads to do like when I get an elk on the ground.

Years ago I ran into Charles from NWTF (helps out at the tuneups) in the field after he shot a buck.. asked him if he needed help dragging it out, he said nope I got it, just help load it on my back. He wrapped the legs around his neck, I helped him up, and he walked out of the woods with the whole damn deer on his back. So us young guys better not bitch about dragging or packing one out! Lol

My dad did that with my 1st buck in the Sierra's (X9-A these days)...I was 11 years old and I had a heck of a time just carrying the rifles...lol

ps...I'd have blaze orange all over me, if I did that in the "16"....

I can sincerely say, that I do hope to be in your position someday in the future. With pics of the boy taking his own stuff, mybe even having a girlie-friend that gets into it. You're a lucky man Steve. Makes for a fine goal for us all to shoot for.
