Otto won one of the special hunts on VID lands at the NWTF Spring Turkey Tune-Up this year...It did not disappoint....................

Got up to Henshaw well before flydown and made our way to an big over hanging oak that I had used before...The gobbling started at about 6:00 am...Unfortunately, the birds were well east of us and we heard the dreaded sound of hens...At about 6:20, the 1st gobblers flew down, then the hens, and they went silent...About that same time, we hear one bird flydown up the hill and behind us...I soft call on the copper, then to the glass...He goes off...Our hen decoys were below us and now I can see the 3 longs and hens below...We're now in a perfect position, between him and those hens...I had moved Otto from looking down hill, to looking up hill before all the action started...Glad I did...The big boy above us had come down behind a big rock and started skirting us to the south...Fortunately, that was right in Otto's shooting lane at 35 yds...KAPOOOWWW!

Beautiful big tom for Otto...Now, it's on to Mariposa to hunt on his uncle's place.....

I’m curious about the copper call. Secret weapon? I’ve been using a box call for two seasons and added a glass pot call this season.

The call I'm using is glass over copper with a round whole in the back for the copper call...Two different sounds and many times they like the copper sound better...I'm thinking it's the louder pitch.

The maker (Josh Kettl) of this call (Flydown Custom Calls) lives right here in Fallbrook...He's a fireman that has two small kids and he was also building a house...Which is now finished...He told me he should back into production soon.

He also makes the best single sided box call money can buy...Crow calls are great as well....

He is a stud and I hope he fires back up, I’d like one of his box calls .

Love those old Lynch calls...Josh kind of combo'd the Lynch single sided and the Primo's single sided box...A little longer box, thinner sides, thick paddle...This gives a higher pitch and louder call.
