Finally got around to working up a mount for my first deer this past season. Wanted to do something a little different from just mounting it on the wall on its own and came up with an idea of what I wanted and just had to figure out how to make it happen.

I did the euro myself and found a pallet from work that I liked the wood grain on so I glued 5 boards together and cut them down to a 23x18 rectangle and found a local guy who lives nearby to cut out the shape for me and even laser cut some mdf for my waypoint marker.

Once cut I did some light burning on the wood and gave it a coat of stain and a once over with a clear coat. I wanted to skull to hang against the board so I fashioned a bracket to get the look I was going for.

Just need to find a spot to hang it in the house.

Love it bro! That 30-06 is a hammer! You still have the shell? If you do, super glue it next to the euro.

You starting a podcast, R2R idaho?

Super pumped for you.
Thanks dude! & yea the first thing I did after I shot was rack another round and picked up my casing. I was thinking about doing that. Will have to see how it looks!

And yea man that 30-06 finally got to eat this season!

& idk about the podcast..gotta get some more kills under my belt lol

You did damn good with that mount! Good job remembering the casing too. When I got my first deer a few years back, I forgot to grab the casing in the midst of the adrenaline and went on a wild goose chase the following weekend to find it since it was important to me. If you decide to mount the casing, a solid option is to run a 6-32 tap through one side of the brass, drill a hole in the mount, and run a machine screw through the back into the casing.

Thank you! & thanks for sharing the tips. I dig the way yours came out. I was kind of thinking of taking a router and carving out a chunk the size of the bullet and maybe giving it a halfway inlaid look if that makes sense.

& yea I don't know what made me think of grabbing it..I wasn't even 100% sure I had hit the deer at first because it disappeared so quickly. Glad I thought of it tho.

There you go! I’ve never seen that before but I like the out of the box thinking. That’d probably look really cool if you have the finesse with the router. Id love to see a pic if you decide to pull the trigger on that idea
