    Tagged out

What a fun hunt! Filling two tags with a hunting partner on the same hunt was a first for me. Definitely added to the excitement...and work! I've hauled entire deer out before but this one was a sloth compared to previous models. Thank god my hike was mostly downhill! ;D I was cracking up...

That's fantastic Jim! Good luck on the hunt!!!

    Colorado Archery Elk hunt.

They are usually very quiet until @ the 3rd-4th week of September. I would refrain from any calling unless the bulls are bugling. Chances are that they wont respond until muzzle loader (later Sept) and often winding down into first rifle (mid Oct). It takes a pretty good cold front to get them...

    Colorado Archery Elk hunt.

Ben, you are very welcome! I wish that I knew half of what I shared with you on my first hunt. It took me a couple years to figure them out. I seriously went from maybe seeing a few elk on a 10-day hunt to seeing them daily. One thing about these animals that always blows me away is their...

    Colorado Archery Elk hunt.

Ben, I can't give you any area specifics but I can give you some pointers to try and help curb the learning curve. Maps: Get a good forestry map. You need a map that details trails, roads, creeks, rivers, etc. Elevation: This can be an issue. Take some aspirin every day for a week prior to...

    Colorado draw success!

Correct! Unit is smack dab in the middle of Aspen, Breckenridge & Woodland Park. Success rates have been 45-50% the past few years. Should be a lot of wide open glassing due to the 2002 Hayman fire burning a good chunk of the zone. Large zone with few tags available. Hunt dates are Oct. 10th -...

    Colorado draw success!

After 5-years of applying, my hunting partner and I cashed in! Colorado Unit 501 First Season Rifle Bull Elk. I've done enough research on this metro unit that I am pumped for the hunt!

    Lightweight tripod/spotting scope

I use a very similar setup as Bonejour. It will be the lightest weight combo that you can assemble.

Handgun reccomendations for my 8 year old daughters first gun

I'm thinking a little pea shooter in 22LR. I need something with a smaller grip for her. I want a safe, dependable gun. Yes, this is on her Christmas list. ;D

    Binocs

Lovin the Vortex love! Their warranty is lifetime...even for 2nd hand glass. I went from Bushnell to Nikon to Vortex. I will say that my next big purchase will be Leica though. But for a budget hunter the Vortex glass is really good.

    Buck Down

DOH! I always have that fear with the kids & balls in the house...and mine are hung really high. It wouldn't be a good thing to have one come crashing down! Glad its alright Jim.
