Where to sight in for 300 yards?

Won a New Mexico Antelope tag! Now I need to sight in my 6.5 CM. I assume 300 yards would work. Any suggestions for where to go? And, if you've been there, done that, with antelope, I'll pour some bourbon out for you if you got any good tips. never been before.

Thanks Guys, And good lord, all of those ducks, for a split second I felt jealousy rage! That's a good looking boat!

Good lake for new outboard break-in?

Hi - bought a boat - mainly for duck hunting. (which reminds me, if you buy a CAMO boat, it's all yours, your friends, wife, daughters, the neighbors, etc; they won't be caught dead on it. Next time you buy a boat, get it in camo) I have a 40hp mercury on it, and I want to break it in...

Need to find great pistol defense class for my family

Thanks guys, this was helpful. Bill Desi looks awesome! but, alas, I'm just a working man with 3 women to pay for, so Bill's rates a smidge out of my lane. Looking into the gun owner groups, which I had no idea existed, I found some classes from ranges. Hopefully these will work. Thanks again!

Need to find great pistol defense class for my family

Hey guys - I have two teen age daughters and, of course, my lovely wife (who is never to know what my actual gun/hunting/fishing budget actually is, or I'll lose half) I need these girls to get a combat class, Glock based preferably, that is outstanding. I want them to go from learning basics...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

LOL, well, I'm just making jokes..for the most part. When I informed my wife that I, impulsively, bought a duck boat, she just stared at me for a for a few, with that face "WTF is wrong with you?" We've been together for almost 30 years (holy crap, 30 years last year), so 'romance' is so rare...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

Well.. I remember my first hunting trip, happened to be boar in Paso Robles in 2019. The guide sent me an equipment list of sorts. Things like "good shoes, rifle, license, hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, knife, and copper ammo." There were a few other things. I got all of it. The only thing I...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

Paul, thanks for that, and to think I almost missed your post. Now that's a 'sanity check,' Funny you mention the 338 RUM because I've been listening to the Back Country podcast, and that guy has a 1 hour show going over why that is the ultimate, near perfect, Alaska rifle. For now, I'll have...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

Well.. Bergara rifles are out until 2023. I started with wanting to look at those, the B14s. They look sublime. So if you want those, you are SOL. And, hang on to your fake news horses, because I don't know if you've tried to buy any ammo over the last 2 years, or any firearms at all last year...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

Man you guys are great. I'm a newb, learning, so when some of you guys say "do this," well, I frickin do it. Got back from Fine Firearms, I don't waste time, and bought a Tikka (which I love!) in 300 WM. Saved $400 over the Browning. Still aiming for the Sig Sauer scope / rangefinder...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

Yeah, this is what I thought about 300, it's the same few cartridges again, and again, and again. I really love my 6.5CM, and I love that it's a short action. I was hoping there was a moden, larger, caliber I might be overlooking, looks like it's probably 6.8 western. Love the looks of it, but...

Quick sanity check on my sanity (300 WM X-bolt)

This whole COVID thing.. man.. what a shame. Hard to get anything. Sadly, the same with rifles. Poway shooting center told me that any bolt action hunting rifles they typically stock are special order with a delivery date of... um.... 2023. (unless you want 6.5CM, in which case they have 200...

    NWTF Monthly meeting...Jan 25th, 2022

Well.. looking forward to meeting you guys. I assume we shouldn't bring our guns wearing our camo. I have a feeling that would be frowned upon.

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

@Horto619 That looks amazing - was just reading about using paraffin wax to get the nice skin. My bird was small though.. so I took just the breasts and legs. Wish I had a nice roaster like that. With those potatoes. wow.. @Aeon Thanks for the heads up on that. Tracker AND Lund are out of the...

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

Terrific my man! I'll take it and 1 of the dogs, just PM the price. Oh, BTW, tracker stopped making Jon boats - I called Angler's in Lakeside and they don't know when manufacturing will resume. Apparently, for Covid, they slimmed down what they were making.. Hemet, however, has both Lund and...

It's lit a fire under me, and I'm off to Anglers Marine to check out the build quality of Tracker boats.

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

OK guys... cooked it; the tiny legs and breasts in nothing but butter, with salt and pepper, in an iron skillet with high heat. Rare with a good sear. DELICIOUS. Too bad it was just a few bites. My girls loved it too.. they fought over the last leg. If this is a 'bad duck' I can't wait to...

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

One thing about the Buffles we shot - they're hard as hell to hit. They fly low and very fast. The small size doesn't help. I'm cooking her up today for lunch, all 2 ounces of it. I'll report back. I'm looking forward to finding out who in this thread can and cannot cook ;-P
