Opening Day - D16 Tag Filled

Thanks Steve! If it wasn’t for people like you going out of your way sharing knowledge with us less experienced hunters, there wouldn’t be many new hunters out there

Opening Day - D16 Tag Filled

I know this is long winded over an average buck but I’m a novice deer hunter and in 5 years of spending an extraordinary amount of time scouting and hunting deer in San Diego, this is only the second deer I’ve ever killed so forgive me for my overexcitement. My buddy and I have been scouting...

New to the 16. Question for the experienced

THIS. It’s wild how many people will charge down the trail right through good areas in the dark with headlamps on just to get to the magical glassing spot they’ve been dreaming of. I sure know I’m guilty of that. Often, completely unaware of how often deer will sit in the shadows and wait for...

New to the 16. Question for the experienced

Early archery season is DRASTICALLY less crowded than rifle and the second half of A22. We hunted hard early archery season last year since my wife and I were due for a baby in October and I didn’t see a single other hunter until quail opener. I can’t speak on mt Laguna from my experience but I...

1st day of Hunting Season...Bunnies beware!

I need to pull the trigger on one soon. I got a cz457 .22 a while back with the hopes of it being a great hybrid competition/rabbit gun but it refuses to shoot a decent group with any non lead ammo on the market. Those Umarex air guns shoot like a dream though especially for the price point

Things I picked up at the range yesterday

Dude i feel your pain. I took so much trash from the same spot a while back and came back exactly a week later to find it looked as though I hadn’t picked up a thing.

    Zeroing

I second this. If you set your eye relief perfect at your highest magnification, you should be good at the lowest. It may even take a few tries. Often, I find that what feels like perfect eye relief behind the rifle in the garage ends up not working when I actually go to shoot.

    Turkey Opener 3/29/2025

Gotcha. I definitely heard your shot further away after those two shots that were closer to us so I think you’re right on the money. Those birds there seem super keyed up to hunters so even more props to you for sweet talking that guy off private. Congrats again man!

    Turkey Opener 3/29/2025

Good stuff man congrats! Did that bird happen to come in from the south chasing a couple hens? We got outsmarted by a gobbler in the same area that put himself between us and the road, never giving us a shot. He end up chasing some hens towards the north and got himself shot just a few minutes...

Things I picked up at the range yesterday

Super frustrating. There’s only a handful of legal spots that don’t require driving my ass out to the desert and they all get consistently trashed. It’s too bad that most gun owners in CA are are perpetually stuck in the “gun make big boom” phase and never really get invested in the longevity of...
